Biography
Serhii Bohachuk was born on April 24, 1995, in Vinnytsia, Ukraine. Bohachuk, also known as "El Flaco" or "the skinny" in English, earned his nickname due to his thin, yet powerful frame. He stands at 6 feet tall with a reach of 72.8 inches. There's nothing too fancy about "the skinny," but he's an orthodox fighter representing Ukraine, a nation known for producing exceptional footwork in boxing.
Nonetheless, he stands out as a fighter and aims to become the next Super Welterweight champion, having been ranked as high as number 2 in the WBC rankings, boasting a record of 23-1 with a 100% KO ratio. His journey to the upper echelons of the weight class has not been easy, though. In 2021, Bohachuk suffered a loss in the 8th round against Brandon Adams, a setback in a sport where an undefeated record is highly valued. However, he bounced back, winning five consecutive fights, including securing and defending the Continental Americas WBC title. Unfortunately, in 2022, Bohachuk faced challenges beyond the ring due to the Ukraine war. He was unable to leave the nation at war for his scheduled bout in March.
Technical Overview
Bohachuk appears to be the next rising star from the Big Bear camp, following in the footsteps of GGG. While he may not have Golovkin's knockout power, he possesses the skill to smoothly execute roll under hooks and blitz combinations with precision, utilizing his footwork and hip movement to transition from one movement or punch to another. He can repeatedly employ this technique against even the most experienced opponents.
Bohachuk demonstrates the ability to vary his combinations, going from jabs to body shots and head punches or vice versa, setting up powerful right hands or hooks to the body. He excels at conserving his power when squatting and can switch between high and low attacks effectively, channeling his power into counter shots.
Despite his slender frame, Bohachuk defies expectations. He's a gentleman in and out of the ring, choosing not to engage in trash talk to intimidate his opponents. His mental fortitude shines through in the challenging and often corrupt world of boxing. His hard work and mental toughness have impressed notable figures like Abel Sanchez, known for producing hard-hitting, pressure fighters, including the great Gennady Golovkin. Sanchez has compared Bohachuk to Golovkin, highlighting his ability to walk down opponents with 1-2 combinations, control the fight with his jab, and deliver devastating short hooks, even when facing aggressive opponents. This speaks to Sanchez's coaching legacy at Big Bear, which is set to continue for generations to come.
