Serhii Bohachuk believes he’s first in line to challenge unified junior middleweight champion Sebastian Fundora. Less than a year ago, the two were scheduled to meet before Fundora shifted his focus to a unification bout against Tim Tszyu. Bohachuk and his trainer, Manny Robles, feel that this change of plans created an unwritten promise: Bohachuk would get a title shot when Fundora returned.
Now that Errol Spence Jr.’s fight with Fundora on March 29 has been canceled, Bohachuk hopes the door is open for him. He gave up his own undercard spot last year so Fundora could unify the WBC and WBO belts. Meanwhile, Bohachuk stayed busy, scoring a unanimous decision over Brian Mendoza and battling Vergil Ortiz Jr. in a close majority decision loss. He also stopped late replacement Ishmael Davis in six rounds.

Robles insists Bohachuk has had enough rest since his last fight on December 21 and will be "ready" if Fundora wants to finalize the matchup. Although a Fundora representative recently questioned Bohachuk’s readiness, Robles points out that 10 weeks remain until March 29 - ample time for a solid training camp. Promoter Tom Loeffler has also contacted Premier Boxing Champions, making it clear that Bohachuk is eager to take on Fundora for both belts.
Other names have been floated, including PBC fighters Joey Spencer and Chordale Booker, but Bohachuk’s team believes his credentials speak for themselves. He’s ranked high by the WBC, and Robles notes that stepping aside previously should count for something. If Fundora wants to defend both titles in a meaningful fight, Bohachuk’s camp says they’re ready to sign and make up for the clash that slipped away last year.
