If you’ve been wondering why Gervonta Davis’ seemingly blatant knee to the canvas in round nine of his bout with Lamont Roach went uncalled, the NYSAC has given us an answer.
In a statement provided to BoxingScene, the commission explained that a technical glitch at ringside prevented officials from reviewing the replay feed within the limited window of time.
Essentially, the NYSAC requested a replay when Davis took a knee – which, by most rules, constitutes a knockdown – but never received the clip quickly enough to make a proper ruling. With no real-time second look, referee Steve Willis’ on-the-spot judgment that Davis was not down stood, and the fight continued without a 10-8 round. Davis ultimately escaped with a majority draw, although if that knee had been called a knockdown, scorecards suggest Roach might have earned a decision victory.

Now, the commission says it's conducting a thorough review. Many assume they’ll acknowledge that Davis’ knee hitting the floor should count as a knockdown, which would have swung the score in Roach’s favor. With such a glaring moment overshadowing the fight, we are waiting to see if any official steps like changing the decision might happen.
