It appears that a rematch of Josh Warrington with Leigh Wood is on the horizon. Warrington, a two-time IBF featherweight titleholder has not fought since his controversial stoppage loss to Wood last October. Despite dominating the first six rounds, Warrington was dropped by a stunning combination from Wood, leading to a contentious stoppage by referee Michael Alexander.
The dramatic nature of their first fight, coupled with the growing animosity between Warrington and Wood over the past seven months, has created a perfect setup for a rematch. Wood's decision to relinquish his title and move up to the junior lightweight division was quickly matched by Warrington's agreement to follow him.

On Wednesday, Warrington and his promoter Eddie Hearn announced via Instagram that negotiations for the rematch are underway. Hearn revealed that although an injury to Wood had initially delayed the fight, they are now targeting an end-of-August date. He also expressed confidence that a deal in principle has been reached with both fighters.
Warrington, while prioritizing the rematch with Wood, has also been evaluating other opportunities in the junior lightweight division. He recently watched Anthony Cacace win the IBF junior lightweight title from Joe Cordina and expressed interest in a potential fight with Cacace. Despite Cacace's imminent mandatory defense against Eduardo ”Sugar” Nunez, Warrington remains eager for future challenges.
As negotiations for the Wood rematch continue, Warrington's focus remains on settling the score while keeping an eye on other potential opponents in the division.
