The Gold Coast Convention Centre in Broadbeach, Australia, was buzzing with excitement as local hero Tim Tszyu (24-0, 17 KOs) took on the resilient Brian Mendoza (22-3, 16 KOs) in a thrilling twelve-round contest. The pro-Tszyu crowd was in for a treat as both fighters delivered an action-packed performance from the opening bell to the final round.

In the main event, Tszyu showcased his boxing prowess, managing to secure a unanimous decision victory over Mendoza. Despite Tszyu’s dominance, Mendoza displayed incredible resilience, adjusting his strategy throughout the bout to ensure he lasted the full twelve rounds. The judges’ scorecards read 116-111, 116-112, and 117-111 in favor of Tszyu. A pivotal moment came in the tenth round when Mendoza landed a body shot that visibly hurt Tszyu. However, Tszyu cleverly feigned a low blow, causing Mendoza to hesitate, missing an opportunity to capitalize on his advantage. This quick thinking by Tszyu shifted the momentum back in his favor, allowing him to regain control and nearly stop Mendoza in the subsequent exchanges.

Tszyu’s most dominant rounds were the seventh and eleventh, where he had Mendoza on the ropes, particularly capitalizing on clinches to land punishing blows. Mendoza, however, showcased his adaptability, avoiding clinches after the seventh and finishing strong in the twelfth round. This final round saw Mendoza outbox Tszyu, landing powerful shots that had Tszyu on the defensive. Post-fight, Tszyu expressed his desire to face Jermell Charlo next, although Charlo’s sights seem set on bigger names like Terence Crawford. For Tszyu, a bout against Erickson Lubin might be on the horizon, setting up another exciting matchup for boxing fans.
