What was supposed to be a blockbuster clash between Vergil Ortiz Jr. and Jaron “Boots” Ennis has officially fallen apart, leaving us disappointed and the February 22 card in Saudi Arabia without one of its main attractions.
Initially set to take place at 154 pounds, the fight crumbled after Ortiz’s team claimed Ennis had requested a shift to 147 pounds. Ortiz addressed the situation, making it clear where he stands:
“I’ve always said I’ll fight anybody, and I remained true to my word,” Ortiz shared on social media. “If I’m not fighting someone, know it’s not my fault!”
Ennis, on the other hand, denied any direct involvement in the negotiations and clarified his stance:
“I saw the rumors like everyone else. From here on out, if it didn’t come from me, don’t believe it. I’ll address whether I’m staying at 147 or moving to 154 later.”
