Luis Alberto “Venado” Lopez is gearing up for his September 15th bout against Joet Gonzalez, set to take place at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. The fight, which is the main event for the ESPN broadcast, will see Lopez’s IBF featherweight title on the line.
Having successfully stopped Michael Conlan and previously unseated Josh Warrington as champion, the 29-year-old Mexican is on an impressive winning streak.
However, post-Gonzalez, Lopez and his team are eyeing a grander challenge. Hector Fernandez de Cordova, Lopez’s manager, said, “Post Joet Gonzalez, we’re keen to invite Inoue to the featherweight division. He’s our desired opponent. While Robeisy (Ramirez) is skilled, he doesn’t attract the viewership numbers a fight against “Venado” Lopez would. We’re ready to defend the title if Inoue is ready to validate his nickname!”
Inoue, a standout in his own right, defeated former unified super bantamweight champion Stephen Fulton in July. Rumors suggest the Japanese boxing sensation is setting his sights on a December bout against Marlon Tapales, aiming to secure his status as a two-division undisputed champion. Notably, Inoue has previously achieved undisputed champion acclaim in the bantamweight category.
