George Kambosos Jr. insists he’s ready to deliver a punishing night to late replacement Jake Wyllie this Saturday at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia. Kambosos was originally slated for a 12-round super lightweight clash against another opponent, only to have him fall out due to medical reasons. Despite the sudden change, the former unified lightweight champion says his preparation won’t skip a beat and vows to put Wyllie “out of his misery” as soon as the bell rings.

When asked about the unexpected switch, Kambosos compared it to his extensive amateur background, in which fighters often learn of their opponents on short notice. He recognizes that Wyllie, a 24-year-old slugger, at least brings power in both hands, having stopped most of his foes. Still, Kambosos believes the gap in experience and skill will become evident under the bright lights. The Aussie also noted that this fight represents more of a showcase for him to test the waters at 140 pounds, especially after going nearly 10 months without lacing up the gloves.

Fans remain divided on whether Kambosos is still a force to be reckoned with after consecutive losses to Devin Haney, a controversial decision over Maxi Hughes, and a below-par showing against Vasily Lomachenko. But Kambosos dismisses such criticism, saying he remains a dangerous contender ready to charge back into title contention – possibly against IBF champion Richardson Hitchins later this year. In his mind, Wyllie is simply a hurdle in that journey, albeit a hurdle that arrived at the last minute.
