Liam Cameron has expressed frustration regarding the terms of his upcoming rematch with Ben Whittaker, scheduled for April 20 at Resorts World Arena in Birmingham. According to Cameron, there is a significant disagreement over whether the bout should be contested over 10 or 12 rounds. Their first meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia ended in a technical draw after both fighters fell out of the ring, with Whittaker citing injuries that prevented him from continuing.
The 34-year-old Cameron, who signed a promotional deal with Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions, says he inked a contract for a 12-round fight but alleges that Whittaker’s team is now pushing for just 10 rounds. He claims he was stopped from discussing the matter on “Gloves Are Off” and that parts of his Sky Sports interview about the contract dispute went unaired. Despite the potential hitch, Cameron insists that he is unwilling to budge from the 12-round stipulation.
Ben Whittaker, has only once competed in a 10-round fight and has never gone the distance in a 12-rounder. Cameron believes that lowering the round count demonstrates Whittaker’s lack of confidence, especially given the challenges Whittaker faced in their abbreviated first encounter. “He could barely get through five rounds,” Cameron said.
With under a month to go, it remains to be seen whether both camps can come to an agreement that will preserve their heavily anticipated rematch. For now, Cameron stands firm that his contract is for 12 rounds, and Frank Warren has signaled support for that position.
Prepare for the upcoming bout.
