Jared Anderson, an upcoming heavyweight boxer, is scheduled to go against the formidable ex-IBF heavyweight champion Charles Martin this Saturday, July 1st. The fight will take place in front of Anderson’s local supporters at the Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio. Despite previous setbacks, southpaw Martin remains a formidable adversary. Anderson will need to give him due attention in their two-round main event, considering Martin’s only career losses have been to Luis Ortiz, Adam Kownacki, and Anthony Joshua.
Anderson, initially slated to square off against hard-hitting contender Zhan Kossobutskiy, had to adjust his plans due to Kossobutskiy’s visa issues. This last-minute change of opponent will be a true test for Anderson, who has not had ample time to familiarize himself with Martin's boxing style.
Regarded as the future of U.S heavyweight boxing, Anderson is widely seen as the heir apparent to the heavyweight division, particularly when Tyson Fury steps down or ages out. Anderson has consistently demonstrated his prowess in the ring, steamrolling opponents such as George Arias, Jerry Forrest, and Miljan Rovcanin, among others. Despite boasting a 100% knockout rate in his professional career, Anderson is not known for single punch power, like Deontay Wilder. He is a combination puncher, utilizing an accumulation of landed blows to score knockouts.
While Anderson’s aggressive style has its merits, it also exposes him to risks. He often positions himself in close proximity to his opponents, opening him up to their counterattacks. So far, this has not posed a significant problem as he hasn’t faced anyone with formidable punching power. This Saturday’s fight, however, may require Anderson to tread more cautiously, given Martin’s notorious left-handed knockout punch.
