Former world heavyweight champ "The Destroyer” Andy Ruiz has announced he’s been given the “green light” by his doctor to return to the ring. Ruiz, who suffered a busted thumb in his recent laboured draw against Jarrell Miller in August, now looks to re-enter the fray later this year.
At 35 years old, Ruiz has shown he still packs a punch when motivated. Though he’s only boxed once since May 2021, his quick hands and dynamic style remind us why he once rocked the division. His injury might have slowed him down temporarily, but with his thumb now fully healed, the stage is set for a comeback.

In a recent social media post, Ruiz reached out directly to his fans: "Just got the green light from the doctor. Let’s go, I’m ready to fight; who should I fight this year?" With his reputation on the line, Ruiz will need two or even three quality wins to earn another shot at the world title - a tall order, but not impossible for a fighter of his caliber.
The prospect of a revived Andy Ruiz is intriguing, especially given his past glory. Back in December 2019, Ruiz shocked the world by upsetting Anthony Joshua and claiming the unified heavyweight crown. If he can recapture that form, a return to big fights and potentially another title run could be on the cards.
