Rafael Espinoza and Robeisy Ramirez are set to rekindle their rivalry on December 7 at the Footprint Center in Phoenix. The rematch comes almost exactly a year after Espinoza claimed a razor-thin majority decision victory in their first meeting, sparking debate and anticipation for a sequel. With a featherweight title on the line once again, both fighters are determined to leave no doubt this time around.
Espinoza, the towering 6'1" Mexican, is brimming with confidence ahead of the fight. "I know it will be a war, and I’ll be ready for any version of Ramirez,” he said. “My confidence has grown since our first fight. I’ve improved mentally and physically, and I’m more focused than ever. I can’t afford to lose focus for even a second."
Reflecting on his first fight with Ramirez, Espinoza acknowledged the lessons learned. "I made a mistake the first time, and it nearly cost me. This time, I’m preparing for the best version of Ramirez, and that’s what I want - no excuses when I win."

Ramirez, a two-time Cuban Olympic gold medalist, admitted that personal struggles impacted his performance in their first clash. "My father was gravely ill during camp, and it affected me deeply," he revealed. "I wasn’t at my best, but I still delivered a great fight. This time, I’m in a better place and ready to show what I’m truly capable of."
Ramirez respects Espinoza’s resilience but believes he’s better prepared for the rematch. "Mexican fighters never give up, but I’ve always characterized myself as a fighter who rises after being knocked down. I have the Cuban boxing pedigree and the huevos to stand and trade if necessary."
Both fighters see this rematch as a stepping stone to greater opportunities in the featherweight division. For Espinoza, it’s about solidifying his position as a champion. "My priority is beating Ramirez. After that, I’ll look at unifications," he said. Meanwhile, Ramirez sees a victory as a way to reclaim his status. "A win puts me where I belong - among the best in the division."
