Yesterday an outrageous boxing event took place in the ProBox Events Center in Plant City, Florida, where in the main event two super middleweight prospects Richard Vansiclen (13-1-1, 6 KOs) and Manuel Gallegos (19-1-1, 16 KOs) fought each other.
As a result of the fight, one judge scored the bout 96-94 for Gallegos, while the other two judges submitted scorecards of 95-95 which means that the fight ended as a draw.
The southpaw Vansiclen, who competed at a contractual weight of 170 pounds, boxed effectively from a distance throughout the opening two rounds, throwing on combinations to Gallegos’ head and body. In the third round, Gallegos performed admirably by avoiding self-suffocation and striking from outside after pinning Vansiclen against the ropes or in a corner.
During the fourth round, Vansiclen appeared to have briefly startled Gallegos by landing a combination to the head after Gallegos' mouthpiece had flown out of his mouth. Referee Christopher Young stepped in during a gap in the action, giving Gallegos time to recuperate as his mouthpiece was put back in his mouth. As a result, Vansiclen was unable to follow up.
Both fighters were able to strike their fair share of combinations amid the fight's ebbs and flows, especially in the middle rounds.
In the co-main event, Lucas de Abreu (14-3, 11 KOs) was beaten by middleweight prospect Darrelle Valsaint (7-0, 5 KOs) via unanimous decision. Scores of the judges were 59-55, 59-55, and 58-56.
Valsaint alternated between a conventional and a southpaw stance throughout the contest. Although de Abreu had his moments, particularly when landing straight and counter-right punches to the head, Valsaint was masterful at timing de Abreu and connected on several of his right hands and left hooks to the body.
In the undercard, Najee Lopez (6-0, 5 KOs) outboxed Cristian Rios (23-17-3, 7 KOs), Marques Valle (8-0, 6 KOs) defeated Jarrod Tennant (8-1, 4 KOs) and Alex Cintron was successful in his pro debut defeating Dario Guerrero (1-2-1, 0 KOs).
