The undercard of David Benavidez vs. David Morrell just got a boost. Middleweight Jose Benavidez Jr. has been added to the February 1 card at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, airing live on PBC on Prime Video PPV. His opponent is TBA, but it’ll likely be someone who can shake off the 15-month rust on Benavidez Jr. since his unanimous decision loss to Jermall Charlo back in November 2023.

At 32, Benavidez Jr. has struggled to find consistent success in recent years, recording only one victory since 2018. That lone win came in August 2023 against Sladan Janjanin. Before that, Benavidez Jr. suffered notable defeats at the hands of Terence Crawford (12th-round KO) and Danny Garcia (12-round MD). He once carried promise at welterweight, but a 2016 gunshot wound to the leg derailed his momentum and impacted his mobility in the ring.

Still, having the older Benavidez brother on the bill adds intrigue. Younger brother David isn’t known for flashy trash talk, so maybe Jose can stir some hype on fight night. He’s shown he can bring heart and grit, even when the odds aren’t in his favor.

If you’re tuning in for David Benavidez vs. David Morrell, be sure to keep an eye on Jose Benavidez Jr.’s return.
