Josh Warrington is not ready to hang up his gloves just yet. Despite leaving his gloves in the ring after a September 21 decision loss to Anthony Cacace, the former two-time featherweight champion has set his sights on a familiar opponent for his next bout: Leigh Wood.

The two shared the ring in October 2023, with Wood staging a dramatic comeback to score a seventh-round TKO and retain his WBA featherweight title. Warrington had been leading on all three judges' scorecards at the time of the stoppage, a decision he still contests as premature. Now, the 34-year-old "Leeds Warrior" believes the time is right for a rematch.

Speaking with DAZN News, Warrington expressed his desire to rekindle the rivalry. "If we’re talking about domestic fights and big fights for the UK, then I think that one’s right there," Warrington said. "We’ve got a bit of history, and it’s appealing for the fans. I don’t think I can end on the note that I did. I’d like to finish on a high, and there’s a fight right there with Leigh Wood."

Wood, who hasn’t fought since their first meeting, is also without a scheduled fight, making the rematch an appealing option for both fighters. The potential rematch, whether in Leeds or Nottingham, would undoubtedly draw a passionate crowd.

Can Warrington turn the tide in a rematch, or will Wood prove once again that he has the upper hand? What do you think?
