Andy Ruiz Jr. is turning back the clock by reuniting with Manny Robles, the trainer who guided him to a stunning upset of Anthony Joshua in 2019. The two parted ways in 2020 soon after Ruiz lost their rematch, despite the success they’d enjoyed together. Many felt the split was a head-scratcher - Robles had molded Ruiz into a legitimate heavyweight force, and their chemistry in the gym was evident.

Since parting from Robles, Ruiz has struggled. He’s fought only three times in five years, laboring to a 12-round draw against Jarrell Miller in his last bout on August 3rd. That performance left many questioning his motivation, but if Robles can reignite that spark, Ruiz might quickly reinsert himself into the heavyweight spotlight. A few quality wins could even put him back in the mix on promoter Turki Al-Sheikh’s mega-cards.

But with renewed focus and more activity, he could chase the WBA “regular” belt or even entice Anthony Joshua or another major name into a great showdown.
