Dalton Smith is set to defend home turf on April 19 when he meets Canada’s Mathieu Germain in a 12-round super lightweight clash at Canon Medical Arena in Sheffield, England. The headliner will stream live on DAZN, courtesy of Matchroom Boxing.
Smith, 28, is fresh off a first-round stoppage of Walid Ouizza in January, a win that kept hold of his WBC “Silver” belt and added the EBU European strap to his collection. Determined to position himself for a future world title opportunity, Smith says there’s “no room for hiccups” and expects to show why he’s ready for a potential shot at the main WBC title.

Germain, 35, hails from Montreal and will make his international debut coming off a seventh-round TKO victory over Carlos Daniel Aquino. He had been hoping for a fight with ex-champ George Kambosos, but jumped at the chance to face Smith in what he views as a prime statement opportunity. Despite being the smaller man in many of his fights, Germain insists he’ll find a way to win on April 19.
In the co-main event, The 34‑year‑old “Leeds Warrior” (31-4-1, 8 KOs) will meet Pakistan‑born Sheffield resident Asad Asif Khan (11‑2, 3 KOs) in a 10‑round super‑featherweight bout.
Warrington admits the decision to retire after his points loss to Anthony Cacace was “spur‑of‑the‑moment,” followed by weeks of what he calls “mourning” while piling on pounds in Saudi Arabia as a TV pundit. A surprise phone call from manager Steve Wood offered the low‑key Sheffield slot, and Warrington decided the only way to discover what remained was to lace up again.
Unlike past nights when he carried Leeds United flags and Matchroom ambitions, Warrington says this one is “for myself.” The change of weight, from 126 to 130 lbs, eases the cut, but the stakes are still personal: prove the engine still fires or accept the Wembley gesture really was the end.
Khan lacks a marquee résumé yet brings southpaw awkwardness and the local pride of fighting in his adopted city. Matchroom matchmakers see the contest as a barometer of Warrington’s reflexes; defeat would likely close the book on a career that peaked with wins over Lee Selby and Carl Frampton, while victory could set up domestic clashes at 130 lbs later in the year.
On the undercard, Leeds’ Ishmael Davis (13-2, 6 KOs) and Birmingham’s Ryan Kelly (19-5-1, 8 KOs) will collide in a 12-round super welterweight showdown. Also in action is rising Guildford super featherweight Giorgio Visioli (6-0, 5 KOs), who faces Birmingham’s Kane Baker (19-11-2, 1 KO) in an eight-rounder, along with Josh Padley (15-1, 4 KOs) at lightweight, Emmanuel Buttigieg (7-0, 1 KO) at middleweight, and Joe Howarth (11-1, 4 KOs) at lightweight.
