Angelo Peña (11-0, 6 KOs) will defend his WBO Intercontinental Championship on April 18 at the Bern Theater in the fourth edition of “Boxen statt Theater.” His opponent, Karim Guerfi (33-8, 10 KOs), is a five-time European champion whose 41-fight record attests to his experience. The Swiss-based Peña sees this encounter as more than a title defense - it’s personal, following a series of online taunts from the French veteran.

Guerfi had been slated to face Peña last year but accepted another fight, fueling a rivalry that intensified through social media posts. Peña chose not to respond publicly but acknowledges those jibes left a mark. Growing up in Ostermundigen and living in Olten, he identifies strongly with his Dominican heritage. He’s proud of the journey that brought him to this moment, and he wants to show Guerfi, and the world, that he’s far from the “Petit-Suisse” Guerfi mocked.

At 30 years old, Peña prepares in Las Vegas for his second defense of the belt he won last fall.
