Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Florida, will play host to a compelling lightweight main event on April 11, as former Cuban amateur standout Armando Martinez Rabi (14-0, 13 KOs) takes on two-time world title challenger Alberto Guevara (27-7, 12 KOs). Rabi, now 30 and based in Miami, has dominated his professional opposition, stopping 13 of his 14 foes since turning pro just under four years ago. Currently rated No. 14 by the WBA at 135 pounds, the unbeaten prospect is aiming to catapult himself further up the lightweight rankings with another emphatic win.
His opponent, Guevara, is a seasoned campaigner who has shared the ring with the likes of Leo Santa Cruz and Shinsuke Yamanaka. Although the Tijuana native came up short in those bantamweight title challenges, his experience at the highest level makes him a stern test for Rabi. Now 34, Guevara is trying to snap a four-fight losing streak and reclaim some of the momentum he enjoyed earlier in his career.
The undercard features an intriguing pair of undefeated brothers from Los Angeles, Ari and Andrey Bonilla, who both represented Mexico as amateurs after being raised in Juarez. Ari Bonilla (3-0, 2 KOs) looks to maintain his perfect record in a 10-round super flyweight bout against Ryan Shaw (8-1, 8 KOs), while Andrey Bonilla (3-0, 2 KOs) meets Houston’s Josue Morales (31-17-4, 13 KOs) in a 10-round bantamweight clash. With only three fights each under their belts, the Bonilla twins are taking significant steps up in both competition and schedule.
