The much-discussed showdown between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia is officially set to captivate the boxing world on April 20. This eagerly awaited match will headline a DAZN pay-per-view event, marking a significant milestone in the careers of these young boxing sensations.
The journey to this superfight began over three years ago when Garcia held the interim WBC lightweight title, while Haney was the reigning WBC lightweight champion. Despite their paths diverging, both fighters have ascended to stardom, demonstrating their prowess and establishing themselves as leading figures in the sport by the age of 25.
The path to this bout reignited last December following victories by both fighters, setting the stage for negotiations that quickly moved from advanced talks to a finalized agreement. Garcia’s recent victory came with an eighth-round knockout of Oscar Duarte, marking a significant return after his loss to Gervonta “Tank” Davis, which had been the highest-grossing boxing event of 2023. This fight, along with a change in training to Derrick James, has been pivotal in Garcia’s resurgence as a standalone star.

Meanwhile, Haney solidified his status as a two-division titlist with a decisive victory over Regis Prograis, claiming the WBC 140-pound title. This victory followed an impressive run as the undisputed lightweight champion, where Haney showcased his dominance with notable wins over George Kambosos and Vasiliy Lomachenko, among others.
The negotiations between Haney and Garcia saw a brief pause as Garcia explored a potential fight with Rolando “Rolly” Romero. However, upon learning through media that Romero was set to face Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz, talks between Haney and Garcia resumed, leading to the finalization of their April 20 bout.

The co-main event will feature a battle between the undefeated knockout sensation Arnold Barboza Jr. (29-0, 11 KOs) known as "The Public Nuisance," and Sean McComb (18-1, 5 KOs) for the WBO Intercontinental Title.
Barboza, also 29, boasts of world title ambitions of his own, but victory will see McComb vie for a shot at WBO champion and American Teofimo Lopez. The odds offered by the oddsmakers rule out chances of upsetting his star opponent; McComb, however, insists he can nab a win in the “Big Apple.”
“I’d like to thank Golden Boy for giving me this opportunity. Oscar De La Hoya mentioned something before about Rocky Balboa – I feel that’s my true role now,” a 31-year-old ex-Holy Trinity boxer McComb said. “This is my chance for glory – I trained physically, mentally, and put in all the effort I could. I am ready, and on Saturday night, I am dedicating my show. Rocky Balboa was a great movie, so I am glad that I got my chance. I have waited for this moment for a long time, and I don’t want to screw up. I am mentally and physically ready, and now I want to perform in all possible ways.”
In addition to this exciting matchup, the card opens with WBA Intercontinental Super Middleweight titleholder Bektemir “Bek” Melikuziev (13-1, 10 KOs) from Uzbekistan facing off against the formidable French challenger Pierre Dibombe (22-0-1, 12 KOs). Melikuziev has been growing in his career and adding challenges along the way. The knockout he suffered at the hands of Gabriel Rosado in 2021 was difficult, but he later managed to defeat him in a rematch in 2023 and reclaim the WBA belt. Melikuziev’s first defense was against Alantez Fox in October last year. Now, he is seeking to keep the crown in a new chance in this locale and in such an important venue.
Dibombe has spent the majority of his career in France but fought in Canada in his penultimate contest and just fought on U.S. soil. His first U.S. appearance was on June 16 of the previous year, when he knocked out Derrick Findley in Atlantic City, a feat he wants to repeat against Melikuziev.

Also featuring in the event is the WBA Interim Super Flyweight World Championship match between John “Scrappy” Ramirez (13-0, 9 KOs) and David “Medallita” Jimenez (15-1, 11 KOs) from Costa Rica. John Ramirez's last bout was on October 21, 2023, against Ronal Batista, where he won by knockout during a co-main event. He knocked Batista down twice, concluding the fight in the fourth round. On May 20, 2022, Ramirez competed for the vacant NABA Super Flyweight Title against Jan Salvatierra, securing a victory by straight knockout. The following year, in February 2023, he vied for the vacant WBA Continental Americas Super Flyweight Title against Luis Villa, winning by unanimous decision.
His opponent, David Jiménez, is currently on a three-fight winning streak. His most recent bout was against Pablo Macario, which he won by a 10-round unanimous decision. In 2023, he clinched the vacant WBC Latino Flyweight Title against Rosendo Hugo Guarneros in the seventh round. This title win held significant importance as his previous match resulted in a loss to Artem Dalakian by unanimous decision.
Furthermore, Charles “Bad News” Conwell (18-0, 13 KOs), the No. 1-WBC-rated super welterweight and former Team USA representative, makes his Golden Boy debut against Nathaniel Gallimore (22-7-1, 17 KOs), aiming for an impressive victory. Conwell has maintained an impeccable professional record since 2017. His recent triumph via TKO against Abraham Juarez Ramirez showcased his formidable power in the ring. Given Ramirez's experience and orthodox stance, similar to Gallimore’s, Conwell's proven capability against seasoned fighters promises an exciting bout.

Nathaniel Gallimore stands slightly taller with a longer reach than Conwell. His most recent fight resulted in a unanimous decision loss to Fiodor Czerkaszyn, revealing certain vulnerabilities that Conwell could exploit. Considering Gallimore's past difficulties with powerful opponents, this matchup could offer Conwell an advantageous position to leverage his strength and tactical prowess.
Moreover, former Ukrainian middleweight title challenger Serhiy Derevyanchenko (14-5, 10 KOs) will have his next fight against American veteran Vaughn Alexander (18-10-1, 11 KOs). "Change of plans. Vaughn Alexander will no longer fight on April 24. We are very grateful for the opportunity, however, we have a bigger fight in mind. We signed a contract and we are very excited - on April 20 at the Barclays Center, during the evening of boxing Heini vs. Garcia, it's Von Alexander vs. Sergey Derevyanchenko," said the latter's manager Mike Cameron.
