Fight Details

The clash between David Benavidez and WBA 'regular' light heavyweight champion David Morrell is set for February 1, 2025, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The fight was initially scheduled for January 25 but was moved to February 1 to accommodate the event’s logistics. Fans are eager to see if Benavidez can adjust his style to succeed at 175 or if Morrell’s superior power and skill will hand him his first defeat. The winner could potentially be in line for a shot at the WBC title, with undisputed champion Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol rumored for a rematch in 2025.

Many are intrigued by this matchup, especially given Morrell’s explosive power and speed. The Cuban star is considered one of the best punchers in the light heavyweight division and could expose Benavidez’s aggressive, come-forward style. While Benavidez has dominated at super middleweight, his recent move to 175 lbs against Oleksandr Gvozdyk last summer showed signs of vulnerability, especially when he was outboxed in the latter rounds.

For Benavidez, this fight carries high stakes. A loss to Morrell would almost certainly derail any hopes of a future mega-fight against Canelo Alvarez. Critics have noted that without the size advantage he enjoyed at 168, Benavidez’s power doesn’t seem to carry over as effectively in the light heavyweight division. Morrell’s precise punching and attacking skills could prove too much for the "Mexican Monster."

In the co-main event, in a rematch, WBC featherweight champion Brandon Figueroa will take on Stephen Fulton in a 12-round contest. Their first fight in November 2021 was a close majority decision win for Fulton, and fans have been clamoring for this rematch ever since. This bout was initially planned for the Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach Jr undercard, but it will now be featured on this stacked card instead.

In the undercard, Isaac "Pitbull" Cruz will face fellow Mexican Angel Fierro (22-2-2, 17 KOs) in a 10-round super lightweight bout. Both fighters are coming off losses and will be looking to bounce back strong. Cruz recently lost his WBA 140-pound title to Jose Valenzuela via split decision, while Fierro was defeated by Alfredo Santiago in June. Expect fireworks in this all-Mexican clash.

Also set for the night, Jesus Ramos Jr, (21-1, 17 KOs) will square off against former unified super welterweight champion Jeison Rosario (24-4-2, 18 KOs) in a 10-round super welterweight bout. Ramos Jr, coming off a stoppage win over Johan Gonzalez, looks to solidify his position in the division, while Rosario is eager to get back into title contention after a split draw against Jarrett Hurd.
