Biography

Wilkens Mathieu, born on January 4, 2005, in Quebec City, Canada. Mathieu’s introduction to boxing was influenced by his family’s involvement in the sport. His father, built a boxing gym in their basement, providing an early training ground. Beginning his amateur career at age 10, Mathieu compiled a 32-fight record. Facing challenges in finding domestic opponents, he gained international experience by competing in countries like Hungary and Germany. His amateur tenure concluded at the Youth World Championships in Spain in November 2022. Despite opportunities to turn professional earlier, he waited until after his 18th birthday, making his pro debut in February 2023.

In his debut, Mathieu secured a first-round knockout against Zsolt Birkas at the Casino de Montréal. Throughout 2023, he maintained an active schedule, fighting five times and earning the title of Eye of the Tiger’s 2023 Rookie of the Year. Major victories include a fourth-round TKO over Przemysław Gorgoń in May 2024 and a win against veteran Rolando Mansilla in September 2024. In March 2025, Mathieu faced experienced boxer Ricardo Luna in an eight-round bout in Hamilton, Ontario, marking his first professional fight outside Quebec.

Wilkens Mathieu comes from a family involved in combat sports. His father, a former amateur boxer, introduced Wilkens and his older brother, Lexson, to boxing. The family trained in their basement, which was set up as a practice space. Lexson Mathieu, born on April 14, 1999, in Montreal, Quebec, began boxing after switching from taekwondo. He competed successfully as an amateur, winning the 2016 American Continental Championships and several Canadian national titles. Lexson later turned professional and retired with a record of 9-0 to focus on business to help his family.

Technical Overview

Wilkens Mathieu’s boxing is closer to kung fu than traditional Western ringcraft. His foot placement, weight control, and anticipation follow the principles of a sword practitioner. He fights like someone who has trained with a blade. He understands when to strike and when to withdraw.

He knows how far his knees should bend, where his weight should rest, and how long his reach should extend before overcommitting. He understands leverage from a defensive perspective, as if protecting a boundary rather than scoring points. His movements are deliberate. His punches serve a clear purpose. His approach follows the principle found in Korean Gumdo, which emphasizes control of the sword with the knowledge that it can defend or harm. In Mathieu’s case, his fists take the place of the blade. He is committed to that form of combat, fully aware of the risks and outcomes.

Roy’s lineage in Fire Emblem reflects a structure built on legacy. Eliwood’s leadership and Lyn’s command of close-range swordplay result in Roy’s ability to balance offense and positioning. Mathieu mirrors this. He draws strategy from his father and applies pressure through the influence of his brother, who has a background in aggressive taekwondo. This foundation builds a fighter who blends patience and urgency. Like Roy’s development into a Master Lord, Mathieu’s style takes the strongest traits from his family to navigate conflict.
